Sunset Surprise at UBC Boathouse

A beautiful sunset on a very warm summer day.

Our client wanted to surprise her fiancé on his birthday with an intimate picnic by their wedding venue and contacted us for some help! Luckilyit was easy to get him out there without raising any suspicions since all she had to say was that she wanted to see the space for décor purposes.

Her checklist:

Ö     By the water

Ö     Sunset with that warm fuzzy glow

Ö     Picnic style

Ö     Blanket, pillows, his favourite foods

With some picnic décor items already in our inventory, we didn’t have to go hunting for too many items! A blanket, big cushions and pillows, picnic basket, some twinkle lights, and tiered platters and stands. When we first arrived in the area it was hard to find a nice flat surface that wasn’t already taken or buzzing with mosquitoes or flies. We waited around until we saw people leaving and luckily a couple had started packing up and it was the most PERFECT spot! People were still walking the trail just by the water at the time but it was slowly emptying out so everything was working out great.

Our team had to hustle because we knew our client was heading in soon. We played around with the set-up a few times due to the uneven slant and rocks but I think it ended up look amazing. We hid the mini cooler out of the way since it wasn’t the prettiest thing to look at and placed the food that insects loved higher off the ground. Once we were just about done, we saw our client walking in just up the path so we packed all the empty bags and jumped out of sight to observe from a distance.
